Recipes for joints & tendons

Individually tailored recipes made from plant-based active ingredients can provide targeted support for joint and tendon problems – as a component of conservative, evidence-oriented orthopedics. In our practice at Dorotheenstrasse 48, 22301 Hamburg, we carefully examine who such mixtures make sense for and combine them - if appropriate - with proven measures such as exercise therapy, manual therapy, training structure, ergonomics and nutritional advice. Important: Prescriptions are a supplementary option, do not replace medical diagnosis and offer no guarantee of effectiveness. Safety, quality and transparency come first.

Regenerative, movement-oriented and evidence-based.

Why prescriptions in orthopedics?

Many orthopedic complaints are based on painful irritations, inflammatory processes, impaired tissue circulation or delayed tendon healing. Herbal recipes, if appropriately selected, can moderately influence these processes. The aim is not to replace conventional therapies, but to complement them in a meaningful way.

  • Pain modulation and anti-inflammatory
  • Support of tendon metabolism and collagen turnover
  • Promotes blood circulation and tissue nutrition
  • Support for swelling and stiffness
  • Improving resilience in the rehabilitation process

The selection is made individually based on findings, tolerability and accompanying medication. We are guided by available evidence, pharmacological profiles and your personal goals.

Suitable for whom? Indications and limitations

Formulas for joints and tendons are particularly suitable for chronic, recurrent or subacute complaints. Acute emergencies, infections or structurally unstable conditions belong in consultation hours and, if necessary, in acute treatment in accordance with guidelines.

  • Osteoarthritis symptoms (e.g. knee, hip, hand) with pain and stiffness
  • Tendinopathies (Achilles tendon, patellar tendon, tennis/golfer's elbow, rotator cuff)
  • Bursitis and irritant synovitis
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Non-specific joint irritation after overloading
  • Regeneration during stressful phases in sport (without doping requirements)

We decide together whether and in what form a prescription makes sense in your case - always as part of an overall plan with exercise, training, if necessary physiotherapy, analgesics as required and other conservative procedures.

How are our recipes created?

Production is usually carried out by specialized pharmacies or established providers with documented quality assurance. We pay attention to clear declarations, batch and purity information. Your recipe remains adaptable: If your symptoms change, the mixture will be checked.

Active principles and example plants

The effects are based on secondary plant substances with inflammation-modulating, analgesic, antioxidant or circulation-promoting properties. Not every plant suits every person - the combination makes the difference. Here are some typical components and indication fields (examples, not to be understood as fixed recipes):

  • Willow bark (salicylates), meadowsweet: classic pain-relieving, inflammation-modulating components; Be careful with salicylate intolerance/anticoagulation.
  • Devil's claw (Harpagophytum): data v. a. to non-specific back pain/arthrosis pain; Be aware of possible stomach irritation.
  • Turmeric/curcumin and ginger: antioxidant, inflammatory modulating; Bioavailability varies depending on formulation.
  • Boswellia (frankincense): Evidence of relief from arthritic symptoms; consider potential interactions.
  • Nettle: traditional for joint irritations; diuretic effects possible.
  • Topical additives (e.g. capsaicin, menthol) for local pain modulation.
  • Patterns known from TCM: movement-promoting and moisture-regulating herbs (e.g. Du Huo, Qin Jiao, Niu Xi) - always according to individual pattern diagnostics.

Important: The study situation is heterogeneous. We use plants with plausible mechanisms and clinical evidence, avoid risky combinations and discuss realistic expectations without promises of salvation.

Dosage forms: teas, granules, decoctions and more

The shape influences effect, tolerability and suitability for everyday use. Together we will choose the option that suits your everyday life.

  • Teas (Infuse): uncomplicated in everyday life, flexible dosage.
  • Granules/extracts: standardized concentration, easy to take.
  • Decoctions (decoctions): classic in TCM, can be combined individually.
  • Tinctures/drops: easy to control, but pay attention to alcohol content.
  • Topical uses: ointments, gels, poultices for local treatment.
  • Rinses/baths (regional): supplementary for surface irritations.

Safety, quality and interactions

Safety is a priority. We therefore examine origin, standardization and possible interactions. Prescriptions are deliberately started at a low threshold and adjusted under clinical observation.

  • Interactions: Anticoagulants/platelet aggregation inhibitors, immunosuppressants, antidiabetics, antihypertensives, etc. are actively queried.
  • Organ health: in the case of liver/kidney diseases, careful risk-benefit assessment.
  • Gastrointestinal tolerance: gradual dosage, taken with meals, if necessary choose an alternative form.
  • Pregnancy/breastfeeding: only according to strict indications; Many components are then not suitable.
  • Allergies/intolerances: precise medical history, clear declaration of each ingredient.
  • Quality criteria: pharmacy quality, documented purity, traceable supply chain.

If you have signs of undesirable effects (e.g. skin rash, stomach problems, dizziness), you should stop taking the medication and consult with them. Laboratory or blood pressure checks can be useful in certain situations.

The goal is a practical solution that can be integrated into your everyday life - without unrealistic promises.

Evidence: What is certain and what is not?

The data on herbal preparations varies: for some substances there are randomized studies with moderate effects on pain and function, for others there are mainly traditional empirical values and smaller studies. Study designs, dosages and extract qualities vary greatly - this makes comparisons difficult.

  • Devil's Claw: Evidence for relief of musculoskeletal pain; Effect size individual.
  • Curcumin: data from a. pain/function in knee osteoarthritis; Bioavailability is crucial.
  • Boswellia: possible improvement in arthritic complaints; Quality of the preparations varies.
  • Topical capsaicin: proven local analgesia in certain pain syndromes.
  • Combination formulations: clinical experience available, but heterogeneous evidence.

We discuss these uncertainties openly. The decision and course are made together, based on your goals, tolerability and understandable clinical parameters.

Integration into the overall therapy plan

Recipes work best when they are part of a coherent concept. In addition to the mixtures themselves, you have a great influence through your daily behavior.

  • Targeted, dosed training (strength, coordination, mobility) – progressive and symptom-controlled.
  • Physiotherapy/manual therapy to improve function.
  • Diet with an anti-inflammatory profile (e.g. lots of vegetables, Omega 3 sources), sufficient protein intake.
  • Weight management for joint-stressful problems.
  • Sleep and stress management for pain modulation.
  • Workplace and everyday ergonomics, load management in sports.

Frequently asked questions

That is individual. First changes are often reported after 2-4 weeks, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. We will arrange a follow-up check to check the benefits and tolerability.

No. Recipes are a complementary option. Proven conservative measures such as exercise therapy, training and – if necessary – analgesics remain central.

Possible are e.g. B. Stomach problems, skin reactions or interactions with blood thinners, immunosuppressants and other medications. That's why we check your medication carefully and start with an adjusted dosage.

6-12 weeks with interim checks are usual. If there is sufficient benefit and good tolerability, the treatment can be extended; if there is no effect, it can be paused or adjusted.

The costs are usually self-pay or private. Statutory health insurance companies usually do not cover herbal recipes. We provide transparent information in advance about expected costs.

Many plants are not problematic, but competitive athletes should check the NADA/WADA regulations. We would be happy to advise you on a doping-compliant selection.

Please bring a list of all preparations with you. Some combinations make sense, others should be adjusted for security or redundancy reasons.
