Atlas Spine Center

At the Atlas Back Center we focus on complaints from the upper cervical spine (C0-C2). The first cervical vertebra - the atlas (C1) - plays a central role in head posture, balance and pain-free movement. Dysfunction in this area can manifest itself as neck and headaches, dizziness, ear pressure or tinnitus, visual disturbances, jaw problems and radiating pain. Our approach is conservative, evidence-oriented and interdisciplinary: orthopedics, neuroorthopedics, physiotherapy and specialized centers for dizziness/tinnitus and headaches work closely together. We carefully clarify what is really behind the symptoms, explain the findings clearly and create an individually tailored treatment plan - without blanket “atlas corrections” or unrealistic promises. You can find us at Dorotheenstraße 48, 22301 Hamburg. Appointments can be easily arranged via Doctolib or by email.

FAQ

The atlas (C1) is the uppermost cervical vertebra and supports the head. Together with C2, it controls large parts of pitching and rotational movements. Nearby nerve and vascular structures make it particularly sensitive to functional disorders.

Neck and headaches, muscular tension, dizziness, occasionally ear pressure or tinnitus (multifactorial), visual restlessness and jaw problems are common. A precise clarification determines the connection.

Only if the examination provides evidence of structural causes or warning signs or after trauma. In the case of functional complaints, clinical examination, exercise instructions and follow-up checks are particularly helpful.

Quick manipulations of the upper cervical spine involve risks and are not generally necessary. We prefer gentle mobilization, active therapy and only carry out interventions after strict indications and information.

Tinnitus and dizziness have many causes. In selected patients, treatment of cervicogenic factors can reduce symptoms, but this is not guaranteed. We critically examine the individual benefits.

Changes can usually be seen within 3-6 weeks with exercises, physiotherapy and everyday adjustments. Chronic courses require longer, gradual programs. We discuss realistic goals and milestones.

The jaw and neck muscles work closely together. TMD can increase neck problems. If there is suspicion, we involve dental partners and targeted physiotherapy.
