FAQ

No. For typical migraines or tension-type headaches without warning signs, imaging is not necessary. We only recommend an MRI if the anamnesis/examination indicates secondary causes.

Migraines are usually one-sided, pulsating, with nausea and sensitivity to light/noise; Activity worsens it. Tension headache is bilateral, pressing/pulling, mild to moderate and without nausea.

Yes. Structures of the upper cervical spine can project pain into the head. Functional diagnostics of the cervical spine and targeted physio/training help to reduce cervicogenic and myofascial headaches.

Acupuncture can help prevent migraines and tension headaches. It is a complementary option. We explain benefits, limitations and realistic goals.

Check adherence to therapy, optimize triggers, adjust physiotherapy/training and coordinate prophylaxis with family doctor/neurology. For chronic migraines, botulinum toxin A may be considered.

Use acute medication sparingly, observe the maximum number of days per month (often ≤10–15 days depending on the substance) and discuss prophylaxis early on. A pain diary helps with control.

Many diagnostic and conservative measures are covered by health insurance. Complementary procedures (e.g. acupuncture) can be self-pay services. We provide transparent information in advance.
